Hotchkiss Limited

History of Hotchkiss

The Hotchkiss story began in 1885 against a background of Britain's prolific industrial expansion. We were then a modest firm of maintenance and jobbing engineers. Based in Eastbourne, East Sussex, we have remained in private ownership throughout our history. In 1951 the business passed into the ownership of the Ohly family, with current Group Chairman Michael Ohly joining the company in 1971.

Our expansion into structural steelwork and ultimately sheet metal was to lead to specialisation in ductwork contracting. Over the years, the group has diversified into related specialist areas including the manufacture and distribution of H&V products, fire resistant duct systems, fire resistant and acoustic coatings, duct cleaning, dry ice technology, robotic cleaning and inspection equipment.

Our annual sales are now in excess of £40 million worldwide, contributing to our expanding global presence.

Throughout the Group, we have maintained traditional apprenticeships and ongoing training at all levels of staff. We believe that this is, as always, the foundation for our future success.
